Abstract
This study examines whether Korean adolescents¡¯ media addiction makes an effect on their subjective happiness and whether the level of physical activity moderates the effect. A gender-based multiple regression analysis was performed. The major findings are as follows: firstly, the media addiction variables appeared to impact negatively upon subjective happiness. The higher the smartphone addiction index and the game addiction index became, the lower happiness got; secondly, the level of physical activity positively impacted upon subjective happiness. For male adolescents, it appeared that happiness increased when the level of physical activity was higher. For the female, the effect on happiness was greatest when the level of physical activity was medium; thirdly, the medium level of physical activity appeared to moderate negative impacts of the smartphone addiction index only for male adolescents.
